Bank Strategy and Management Friday 4/2024 B407

Bank Strategy & Management is a highly topical area relating to current market,
regulatory and organisational challenges faced by governments and wider users of the
financial system. This module is updated annually to reflect new legal and regulatory
issues as well as current themes in banking (primarily in developed economies but also
touching on developing economies). You may be seeking employment in the banking
industry and/or in a role requiring frequent contact with banks and this course provides
preparation for a broad understanding of the challenges of potential employers either in
banking or as users of banks. You will also learn how governments and banks have
common and diverging interests that affect all economic participants.
The module aims to develop your understanding of the key principles underlying
strategic and management challenges facing banks today and in the future. You
should be able to understand why banks may be similar or behave quite differently
depending on their home (headquarters) or host (operating) country, how banks
choose businesses to operate in, and why they change them. You will also learn
about some of the cultural conflicts inherent in strategy, management and risk
taking by banks.
