The
psychology and behavior of individuals are well-known to the public, but the
psychology and behavior of crowds are quite unfamiliar to many managers.
However, this knowledge is an important part of crowd management in the tourism
industry, especially in emergency situations. This course provides foundational
knowledge about the concept of crowds, factors that form crowds, psychological
and behavioral characteristics of crowds, reactions, and management techniques.
Crowd management models, crowd risk analysis matrices, software, and
psychological tactics will also be introduced to help students be proactive
when working with large gatherings.
